Retrofit Program: substantial incentives to save energy

Welcome to our first blog post, the start of regular, interactive communication from the Retrofit Program team at Veridian Connections. Anything and everything you want to know about the Retrofit Program will be found here.

We will be sharing ideas and industry updates, including news about Ontario businesses that are taking advantage of incentives offered by their hydro companies and the Save on Energy Retrofit Program.

For example, General Motors in St. Catharines received $476,000 from Horizon Utilities (now Alectra) after a lighting retrofit. The plant replaced 2,400 bay lights with energy-efficient LED lights which resulted in over 8,600,000 kWh in energy savings per year. The plant also reduced its carbon emissions by 6,049 metric tons a year, the equivalent of taking 1,280 cars off the road.

A lighting upgrade is one of many energy-efficient retrofit projects eligible for incentives. Whether you own or run a manufacturing facility, processing plant, warehouse or institution, we can help your business save money, save electricity, and improve the overall efficiency of your power system while reducing your environmental impact.

Up to 50% of project costs

The Retrofit Program is easy to apply for. We conduct a site visit to inspect existing equipment then help you complete the application form. After a quick pre-approval process, your project can move ahead – and you could receive up to 50% of the project costs.

To be eligible for financial incentives, retrofit projects must show a verifiable reduction in peak electricity demand and/or electricity consumption. Eligible projects include lighting retrofits, lighting controls, HVAC redesign, chiller replacement, and variable speed drives.

There are also incentives for improving the thermal performance of your building envelope, achieved through increased insulation, installing high performance windows and frames, low emissive window glazing or low emissive roof barriers.

Installing new energy management systems, building automation systems, sensors, control equipment, and metering equipment may also be eligible for incentives.

The Retrofit Program helps businesses save money by lowering operating costs through energy efficiency. Find out how you can build energy efficiency into your business and be rewarded. Call or email us today and we’ll get you started.
